The Secret to Life

Lately I've been thinking about life - it's meaning, why people are here, what we accomplish, and what we think we are accomplishing. I will have to dedicate much of this thought to my recent research on Buddhism, Ghandi, and my recent thoughts from the great book I am reading, "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy", for these things have given me my thoughts about life.
It might just be me, but through my observations I have noticed that people generally just run around, racing form place to place, trying to organize what they think is 'life'. If you watched these humans from above, you would see nothing but ant-like figures racing around in no particular pattern, doing no particular thing, with no particular reason. Yet, these humans think that have reason behind life; they just don't know what it is.

I mean, you live and you die, right? Five hundred years from now your life will mean nothing. So, what does it matter if you worked your sucky job, paid your lousy bills, wore your poofy makeup, or confirmed to the crazy dramas of life? Or, what does it matter if you were a bum living on a rotten, stinky mattress under a bridge in the middle of nowhere? Or if you were a pissy old lady who wore a giant hat and carreid around dog terds? Does it matter at all?

I'm going to stop here and give an example of things that don't matter; things that don't matter, but that humans stress over on a regular basis:
Highschool! I can't even think of the word highschool without the word drama also coming to mind. Everyday teenagers expereince so much drama! Sometimes they even think their life is coming to an end because of all the drama. They have a bad hair day! Oh, god, it's all over. Life as we know it is going to end! Little dramas like hair, makeup, and friends can end their world.

But, why does all of that matter? Fifty years form now it will be laughed at, and 100 years from now it will be completely forgotten, like it never happened in the first place. So, why should it matter at all?

The reason that I keep writing questions is that my thoughts are very undeveloped so far. I have established that humans must think they have some meaning behind all the madness that they call life. But, I have yet to develop a reason behind why these people think their meaning is valid. Heck, I don't even know the meaning behind what I think and how I reason about my own life. One day, I hope to figure it out; but, who knows! I may never figure it out.

So...I will conlcude this post with one question: Why is it important what people do/think/accomplish in life?
I also want to add that I am not telling people to stop their life and live as a bum. Nor am I advising people to be rude, inconsiderate old ladies. It would be nice if everyone could be the opposite, actually. If there is no meaning to life, you might as well be nice and try your best, right?

Until next time~
